Daniel Charles Lustbader

Obituary

Danny was born on June 12, 1961, on Long Island, New York to Irwin and Marjorie Lustbader, joining his siblings Carol, Wendy, and Gary to make a family of six. He was the especially beloved last child, a joy to everyone, and remained all of his life strongly devoted to the family. He moved to Florida in his late teens, attending college there for a few years and then seeking work in the hotel industry. He liked customer service and received many accolades for his thoughtfulness and kindness. Eventually, he became a night auditor and found such work to be more peaceful with fewer of the vagaries of daytime work. Most recently, he worked as a cab driver and built a following of local customers who often called on him for rides to and from the airport, as well as an infinity of medical appointments. At last, he was his own boss. He set his own schedule and loved getting to know people from all walks of life. Although he didn't marry or have children, he left this life on February 14th, 2024, with an abundance of friendships that had filled his days with love and loyalty. He also adored his nephew, Jordan Shirley, and was so looking forward to attending Jordan's wedding next month. His life ended abruptly when his heart gave way while he was driving a customer to the airport, his second airport run of that fateful morning, and we are all convinced that he did everything he could to save his passenger's life. He succeeded in this, dying as a Mensch just as he had lived.

Danny is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Gary and Louisa Lustbader of Long Island, NY, Wendy and Barry Grosskopf of Vashon Island, WA, and Carol and Charlie Shirley of Cocoa, FL.
