Harvey Joseph Horowitz Born October 30, 1942

Harvey Joseph Horowitz, lovingly known as "Pop" and "Poppie," was a man of conviction, wisdom, humor, and unwavering integrity. He was the kind of man who often knew more than anyone else in the room, yet remained personable, outspoken, and entirely himself. Whether people agreed with him or not mattered less to him than standing for what was right. Harvey spoke the truth as he saw it, stood his ground, and pushed forward with strength and courage no matter the circumstances.

A brilliant and deeply thoughtful man, Harvey possessed knowledge far beyond the ordinary. An electrical engineer, physicist, chemist, and holder of multiple patents, Harvey dedicated his life to discovery, innovation, and understanding the world around him. Though he did not serve in the military directly, he served his country through his work and through his unwavering support of those who defended it. Yet above all of his accomplishments, the greatest source of pride in his life was his family.

His understanding of mechanics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, Torah, and life itself shaped everyone fortunate enough to know him. Some wisdom he shared freely, especially with his two sons, whom he taught through debate, hands-on experience, humor, and endless conversation. Other things he carried quietly within himself.

Harvey led with charm and wit, but beneath his strength was a sensitive soul who wore his heart openly. He believed deeply in honesty, integrity, moderation, and personal responsibility. He taught his family not only skills and knowledge, but also how to stand firmly in one's principles and always show up for the people you love.

Educated in the New York City school system and at City College, Harvey carried with him both intellectual rigor and spiritual devotion. He studied Torah and Halacha with sincerity and joy, always searching for meaning in the words while emphasizing balance, compassion, and moderation. He embodied Judaism through action, love, learning, and the belief that "we are our brother's keeper."

Harvey's passions included politics, spirited discussion, his work, and above all, the people he loved. He was always engaged with the world around him and never stopped thinking, questioning, teaching, or learning.

Harvey was the beloved husband of Sura Horowitz and devoted father of David and Daniel Horowitz, who affectionately knew him as "Pop" and "Poppie," while his grandchild called him "Zeida." He leaves behind a legacy of strength, knowledge, honesty, humor, and deep love for family and faith.

May we remember Harvey by being true to who we are, loving those around us with honesty and integrity, and having the courage to stand for what is right. May his memory be a blessing.
