Jerome Steven Chermak, 78, of Boynton Beach, passed away on November 7th, 2025 after a valiant battle with leukemia.

Jerry was born on September 6th, 1947 to Murray and Gloria Chermak in Brooklyn, NY. After Jerry graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in 1965, he went on to study history at Binghamton University. Upon graduation, Jerry then earned his master's degree in education at Binghamton, and then his doctorate of education at Boston University.

Jerry started his professional journey in 1970 as a history teacher at Braintree High School in Braintree, MA, beginning an impressive 50-year career in education. When Jerry and Sheila moved to FL in 1982, Jerry was hired as Department Chair of the middle school social studies department at University School of Nova Southeastern University. During his tenure at the school, he held different administrative leadership positions and was promoted to Head of School in 1999. Jerry retired from this position in 2015 but continued to work for the University for four more years.

Jerry met Sheila when he was a senior at Valley Stream Central High School in 1964. Together they cultivated a loving home where they raised two wonderful children, Douglas and David.

In 2019, Jerry officially retired and spent his time traveling with Sheila; playing tennis, ping pong, and bocce ball; attending academic lectures; and spectating at professional sporting events to cheer on the Miami Heat and the Florida Panthers.

Jerry was predeceased by Murray and Gloria Chermak. He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila; his two sons, Douglas (Aya) and David (Jessica); his grandchild, Mazal; and his brother Rick and sister-in-law Shelley.

Services will be held at Rubin Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, November 11 at 12 pm. Following the services, internment will take place at the South Florida Jewish Cemetery.
