Dr. Melvyn Roy Ostrov

June 12, 1937 – January 22, 2026

Dr. Melvyn Roy Ostrov, a dedicated physician, author, and beloved father and grandfather, passed away on January 22, 2026, in Delray Beach, Florida. He was 88 years old.

Born on June 12, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Ostrov graduated from Brooklyn College and went on to earn his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era as a medical officer, holding the rank of Major, and was stationed at Fort Ord in California.

After completing his military service, Dr. Ostrov settled in Connecticut, where he joined a medical practice specializing in allergy and immunology. Over the course of his career, he became known not only for his clinical expertise but also for the deep compassion and time he devoted to his patients. He valued meaningful connections over material gain and was cherished by generations of families under his care.

In addition to his work as a physician, Dr. Ostrov contributed to the field through research and scholarly publications in allergy and immunology. After retiring from medical practice in 2004, he authored and self-published "Mud Castles", a semiautobiographical novel.

Dr. Ostrov is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Irene; two sons, Robert (Kate) and David (Adrienne); and four grandchildren, Hannah, Charlotte, Aiden, and Natalie and his sister Susan. He will be remembered for his quiet wisdom, enduring curiosity, gentle humor, and lifelong dedication to helping others.
