Susan Ellen Flynn, nee Rosner, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 5th, 2026. Born Susan Rosner, on December 29th,1951 in Hartford, Connecticut, to her father, Saul Rosner, and her mother, Sonia Kravitz. She leaves behind generations of family members and friends that she made into her family along the way. Susan is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Gregory Flynn; her two children, Jonathan M. Flynn (Whitney) and Brian D. Flynn (Bess); sister Beth Goldstein, and her many grandchildren. Susan was preceded in death by her brother David Rosner.

"Whoever is hungry, come and eat. Whoever is needy, come and celebrate Passover." I cannot recall a Passover seder where she didn't have a house full of people and not an empty stomach in sight. Most holidays, she would invite so many people that multiple tables were needed to fit everyone.

This ideology spread far beyond religious holidays; Sue was everyone's mother. Friends from boarding school sick of eating at the cafeteria? Susan's kitchen was always open. Having trouble and not sure who to ask for advice? Susan always had two ears, a cup of tea, and advice ready for you. People who thought they were lost in life, but knew Susan, always had a shining beacon available to help them get back on track.

During the 1973 Yom Kippur War, she travelled to Israel to work at a Kibbutz for a year; a communal settlement where she participated in agriculture and prayer. After her time on the Kibbutz she transitioned to working at Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem for another year before returning to the United States. She dreamed of changing the world and making a positive impact on those people around her.

On return, she continued working in nursing as both her career and calling at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut. She spent her time as an Emergency Room nurse. It was here that she met her future husband, John.  She said she lived for the chaos of the ER; rather than shying away, she always ran towards the next big problem. Susan always wanted to help the world and did everything she could to make that happen.
After moving across the country to California, she changed focus to bettering her local community. You would find Susan giving her time, energy, and positivity to those who needed it most. During the summers, you'd find her working with Habitat for Humanity, building homes for families that couldn't afford them, feeding people at the Homeless Shelter, and cooking at the Ronald McDonald House. She would bring her children and grandchildren along to show them the value of giving back to their community. Susan touched many lives through these activities.
Through the Synagogue, she felt closest to her community and religion while singing in the choir. Without her voice, it was just a song, but when she joined in, it became an experience.
Even in retirement, she didn't know how to slow down. Susan remained active in her community, working tirelessly as President of the American Legion Auxiliary as well as being the President of the Hadassah group. Susan also loved playing cards, bowling, walking her dog Bear, and hosting dinner and holidays in the company of others.

Susan spent her life giving to other people. She was the breath of fresh air in a stuffy room. Her laughter was contagious and could help brighten any mood.
