Sylvia B Yasner

Sylvia Yasner, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and cherished friend, passed away on September 3, 2026, in Boynton Beach, Florida. Born in 1948, she was the youngest of three children born to Lee and Leon Birnbaum and grew up in New Britain, Connecticut.

Sylvia earned her bachelor’s degree from Wheelock College and her master’s degree from Boston College before beginning her career as a kindergarten teacher. During a singles cruise, she met Dr. Robert Yasner, who would become her beloved husband and lifelong partner. 

Sylvia and Robert raised their family in Fairfield, Connecticut, where she was a devoted mother to their two children, Lawrence and Melanie. She built lifelong friendships through her children’s playgroups and Congregation Beth El, where she was an active member of the Jewish community. When her children were older, Sylvia returned to education as a library media specialist and retired from Fairfield Country Day School.

Sylvia had a deep appreciation for art, music, and lifelong learning. Among her favorite places were the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Lincoln Center in New York and the Rodin Museum in Paris. She also enjoyed playing golf, walking on Penfield Beach, volunteering, and hosting family and friends.

After both of their children moved to Florida, Sylvia and Robert followed, making their home at Valencia Reserve in Boynton Beach. There, she embraced an active life, serving as a board member of The PAP Corps, participating in water aerobics, book club, and canasta, and building many new friendships. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandson, Xander. 

Sylvia will be remembered for her kindness, sincerity, warmth, and genuine concern for others. She had a special ability to make people feel welcome and included and was deeply devoted to her family and friends. Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Robert Yasner; her children, Lawrence Yasner (Deanna) and Melanie Bor (Eric); her cherished grandson, Xander; and her siblings, Reuben Birnbaum and Pamela Friedeberg.

 Sylvia will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
